IGUAZU JUNGLE LODGE CODE OF ETHICS
PUERTO IGUAZU - MISSIONS
_________________________________________________________________________
I Presentation
This Code of Ethics constitutes the main axis by which the Hotel Iguazú Jungle Lodge guides its actions in the operation of its activities with its employees, clients, suppliers, and the surrounding environment.
This code is based on the principles of the World Tourism Organization's Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, as well as the philosophy and vision that has characterized this company since its inception.
Through the ethical principles and values, as well as the conduct contemplated here, we aim to encourage each employee of this hotel to conduct themselves appropriately in their duties, in their relationships with others both inside and outside the company, and in various situations that may arise.
Therefore, the Iguazú Jungle Lodge Hotel develops its commercial activities within the framework of responsible tourism through:
I. The principles that guide our actions
I a. Understanding and mutual respect between human beings.
I b. Respect for different races, cultures, and religious beliefs, especially our native culture.
I c. Understanding and tolerance of the ethical values and religious, moral, and philosophical beliefs of both the tourists who visit us and those of our collaborators and local communities.
I d. Treatment among employees, supervisors, managers, staff, guests, suppliers, and visitors must be governed by the universal standards of respect, courtesy, and tolerance.
I e. Tourism activities are carried out with respect for the traditions, social, and cultural practices of this region and this country; in accordance with its laws and customs.
I f. The company is committed to ensuring the safety of its guests and visitors, their health, and the protection of their property. To this end, it provides and disseminates information, prevention, protection, and assistance to its visitors that meet their needs.
I g. Absolute respect is established for the company's property, that of each employee, and its guests. Likewise, each employee must make appropriate use of the equipment, tools, and accessories that the company makes available to them for personal benefit or for the performance of their daily duties.
II. The integral development of people
II a. Iguazú Jungle Lodge is based on the principles of gender equality, guaranteeing equal opportunities for both genders in all work areas. The company DOES NOT TOLERATE misogynistic attitudes or acts of gender-based violence. It also respects people's sexual preferences.
II b. Business management promotes and fosters human rights, in particular the specific rights of the most vulnerable population groups, especially children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and ethnic minorities.
II c. We have a principle of NON-TOLERANCE toward the exploitation of human beings, especially sexual exploitation, particularly when it affects children and adolescents, since this act goes against the fundamental objectives of Responsible Tourism. This company does not facilitate sex tourism in any way.
II d. Only registered guests are permitted in the rooms. If there is any doubt about a case of prostitution or sexual abuse, the specific procedure is immediately applied and, if appropriate, the competent authority is subsequently notified.
II e. This company absolutely rejects any type of harassment, whether physical or verbal. Any act of sexual harassment or harassment by employees, suppliers, or guests is immediately reported to the management team.
II f. The company refrains from any type of trafficking in drugs, weapons, antiques, protected species, plants, and products and/or substances that are dangerous or prohibited by national regulations; as well as from promoting any behavior that may be shocking or harmful to the local population or damage the local environment.
II g. To ensure compliance with these principles, we have specific action protocols to prevent these socially harmful behaviors, which our employees are required to implement.
III. Contribution to the quality of life of employees and respect for their labor rights
III a. The company specifically guarantees the fundamental rights of its employees; this is governed by the aspects contemplated in the Employment Contract Law 20744 and its concordant laws, in force in the Argentine Republic. As a policy, hiring employees on a seasonal basis is avoided to the greatest extent possible.
III b. Each employee is granted the right to training and education for the proper performance of their duties, as well as their personal and professional development.
III c. The company's goal is to have happy, satisfied, motivated employees with a high sense of responsibility and loyalty to the company.
III d. Camaraderie is fostered as part of the work environment; each employee is committed to collaborating with others, whether they work in the same department or in other areas.
III e. Open communication is very important at Iguazú Jungle Lodge. Each employee has the right and obligation to communicate whatever they consider important (suggestions, problems, concerns, etc.) while respecting the primary lines of communication. Management is always willing to listen, address, and resolve any issues that arise.
III f. The company respects workers' rights of association, recognizing the sector's Collective Bargaining Agreement as law and obligating itself to comply with all labor benefits agreed upon by the parties therein, especially with regard to the rights of pregnant or breastfeeding workers and obligations related to salary and payment of contributions to the Social Security System.
IV. Respect for nature, wildlife and indigenous cultures
IV a. Iguazu Jungle Lodge ensures the protection and care of natural resources by implementing environmentally friendly practices in the pursuit of sustainable development that equitably meets the needs and aspirations of present and future generations.
IV b. Incentives are provided for the implementation of practices and procedures that save scarce and valuable natural resources, particularly water and energy, and responsible disposal of waste produced as part of hotel operations is sought.
IV c. Every employee and guest must care for, treat with care and respect all animals, insects, trees, and plants. Animal cruelty is not permitted in this hotel, nor is the removal of flora and fauna from the premises permitted. The flowers in the garden are intended for the reproduction of certain species and for the enjoyment of our visitors.
IV d. Wild animals living in the surrounding area must remain free; artificial feeding and captivity are prohibited so that they do not depend on humans.
IV e. The company completely rejects the use of any type of chemical that is harmful or damaging to the environment.
IV f. The hotel prefers to admire nature in its original and vibrant way, so flowers are not cut to decorate public areas, rooms, or the restaurant.
IV g. The hotel restaurant does not sell any exotic or endangered meats or foods. Furthermore, the closed season law is respected for animals subject to this protection.
IV h. The company complies with the Environmental Law, which aims to ensure that trade in wild flora and fauna does not harm the survival of species.
IV i. Iguazu Jungle Lodge respects and promotes respect for our indigenous culture. We do not practice or permit aggressive behavior toward local traditions, or disregard for the Guarani language, food, legends, customs, or clothing. Instead, we emphasize pride in our indigenous people and their customs. To the extent permitted and without hindering their activities, we seek to reach out and offer our support and collaboration.
V. Socio-economic benefit of local communities
V a. The development of tourism activities is carried out with respect for cultural, artistic, and archaeological heritage, as well as for local communities.
V b. For the development of excursions, contracting of services, as well as the purchase of products, local suppliers who can obtain direct or indirect benefits from the activity are used whenever possible.
V c. The hotel regularly organizes activities to ensure the survival of traditional cultural and craft production, as well as folklore.
V d. Visits to nearby cultural attractions, such as typical town festivals and communities where crafts are made, are encouraged.
VI. Transparency in negotiations
VI a. The company undertakes to provide tourists with objective and accurate information about the property, other destinations, and travel conditions. Furthermore, it ensures absolute transparency in the clauses of the contracts it proposes to its clients and suppliers, regarding the nature, price, and quality of the services it undertakes to provide and/or contract.
VI b. At Iguazu Jungle Lodge, we are committed to understanding and making known to our guests, visitors, employees, and suppliers the scope of Law 26.364 and its concordant laws, and to applying each and every one of its aspects in order to promote and participate in the fight against human trafficking.
VI c. In addition, we actively participate in the International Campaign for the Prevention and Eradication of the Sexual and/or Commercial Exploitation of Children and Adolescents.
VII. Human trafficking
Human trafficking is understood to mean the recruitment, transportation, and/or transfer—whether within the country, from or to another country—the harboring or receiving of persons for the purpose of exploitation, when deception, fraud, violence, threats, or any other means of intimidation or coercion are involved, abuse of authority or a situation of vulnerability, or the granting or receiving of payments or benefits to obtain the consent of a person in authority over the victim, even when the victim's consent is present. We understand that exploitation exists in any of the following situations:
a) When a person is reduced or kept in a condition of slavery or servitude or is subjected to similar practices;
b) When a person is forced to perform forced sexual labor or services.
c) When any form of sexual commerce is promoted, facilitated, developed or profit is obtained;
VIII. Child labor
Iguazu Jungle Lodge adheres in its actions and business conduct in a reliable and unwavering manner to Conventions 138 and 182 of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which prohibit or impose severe restrictions on the employment and labor of children. We rule out and reject the possibility of incorporating children and/or adolescents into our staff, thereby contributing, through our actions, to the effective abolition of child labor, since it conflicts with the moral and ethical values of all of us at Iguazú Jungle Lodge, and especially its owners.
IX. Misogyny and Gender Violence
Iguazú Jungle Lodge adheres in its actions and business conduct to the principles and requirements established in Law 26.485 on "Comprehensive protection to prevent, punish, and eradicate violence against women in all areas of their interpersonal relationships." Gender-based violence is understood as "any conduct, action, or omission that, directly or indirectly, both in the public and private spheres, based on an unequal power relationship, affects their life, liberty, dignity, physical, psychological, sexual, economic, or property integrity, as well as their personal safety," as defined by said regulatory body. The company trains and empowers its staff to act preventively and reactively when these types of situations occur, understanding the social responsibility involved in taking action against this scourge that harms our society.
X. Discrimination
Iguazú Jungle Lodge strictly applies the principles and prescriptions defined in Law 23.592 and its amendments, which define a discriminator as "anyone who arbitrarily prevents, obstructs, restricts or in any way undermines the full exercise on equal bases of the fundamental rights and guarantees recognized in the National Constitution, will be forced, at the request of the injured party, to annul the discriminatory act or cease its implementation and to repair the moral and material damage caused.
For the purposes of this article, discriminatory acts or omissions determined by reasons such as race, religion, nationality, ideology, political or union opinion, sex, economic position, social condition or physical characteristics shall be considered in particular."
The company does not permit discriminatory acts within its establishment and requires its staff to act in accordance with the law.
XI. Harassment
At Iguazú Jungle Lodge, we understand harassment to be any behavior that causes discomfort or dissatisfaction in others, resulting from bullying, stalking, or harassment. We are explicitly committed to preventing and eradicating this type of behavior in our company. That's why we have specific protocols against sexual harassment, psychological harassment, cyberbullying, and workplace bullying, and we train our employees to identify these types of behaviors and be alert to prevent and eradicate them.
Principles of the United Nations Global Compact
The specific reference framework and therefore guide for El Iguazu Jungle Lodge is the United Nations Global Compact, which emerged as an ethical commitment initiative, intended for entities in all countries to adopt ten principles of conduct and action regarding human rights, labor, the environment, and the fight against corruption as an integral part of their strategy and operations.
